The final TDSB invoice came through late in November and with great surprise it had changed significantly, but after a good meeting, the TDSB absorbed $4,600. We are paying $52,300 for the climber to be installed in the spring (fingers crossed). It has been a long journey in completing the schoolyard project, and some parents who started on the original committee are no longer here to see the fruit of their labour. We should take a moment and recognize the hard work and money that our community has put forth to improve our children’s school experience. From a backed up drainage system in the pit and a dustbowl / mud pit of a field, to a basketball court, track and grass that the kids are happy to run through while coming into school not much dirtier than before. Thanks, everybody!
The meetings have started, the fun has begun and a date is set. Our outstanding Silent Auction will be held on March 2, 2018. If you have never attended this extravaganza, it is a sight for sore eyes to see what can be done to our gymnasium for an evening. As always, our Silent Auction Committee puts forth a lot of hard work and a touch of class to provide us with an evening of fun, drinks and shopping – all without any kids! Please remember that, while it is always a fun event, the auction is only as successful as the donations we receive; feel free to reach out to your community shops or places of work. If you have any questions, feel free to email email@example.com.
Lost and Found
Our mini-mall – or as we call it, the Lost and Found – is being packed up on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Please come and take a look to see if any items are yours; Monday and Tuesday are your last chance.
Yes, we have actually started thinking about warmer days and wearing T-shirts on the sunny Saturday of May 26, 2018. Right now all we are thinking about is adding new volunteers to our committee. There are quite a few spots to be filled – from managing the slime table to planning the layout (an architect would be GREAT!!!) and recruiting new co-chairs (who have decided that, three fun fairs later, they are ready to pass on the walkie-talkies) – we need some new parents to pitch in. If you are interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

Community News: Basket Brigade
A group of moms from Withrow have launched a new charity called the Riverdale Basket Brigade! Their goal is to feed 75 local families in need (either due to financial hardship, recent illness, job loss etc.) by hand-delivering a complete holiday on December 23. There are lots of ways the Withrow community can help… from packing and decorating the baskets to delivering them directly to the families. You can also make a charitable donation by clicking the link below (yes, you will get a tax receipt). https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/32462. For more details about how you and your whole family can volunteer, please either join their Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/298604167322583) or email Gillian at email@example.com.
